San Pedro de Atacama: 3 D. Tour Uyuni and Back to San Pedro

4.8 (89 verified reviews)

About This Experience

Koa Travel's three-day trip crosses from San Pedro de Atacama into Bolivia, covers the lagoons of the high altiplano and the Salar de Uyuni, and brings you back to San Pedro, so you need no onward travel from Uyuni. It has a 4.8 rating from 89 reviews and starts from $880 per person.

Pickup is at 6:00 am for the shared van to the Hito Cajón border, where you go through immigration and switch to a 4x4 with a driver and an English-speaking guide. Day 1 crosses the Dalí desert, named for its wind-carved rocks, and the Siloli desert, and visits the Green and Red lagoons; Laguna Colorada is home to hundreds of flamingos. The night is at the Kachiwasi Hotel in San Cristóbal.

Day 2 is the Salar de Uyuni, the world's largest salt flat at about 3,600 m, with Isla Incahuasi and its giant cacti, a crossing of the salt and sunset at the shore, then a night at Hotel Toñito in Uyuni. On day 3 you visit the train cemetery, drive about three hours to Laguna Catal for a walk among volcanoes and llamas, and return across the altiplano, with a private transfer from the border to your San Pedro hotel.

Meals during the trip (2 breakfasts, 3 box lunches and 1 dinner) are included; dinner on the second night in Uyuni is not. Park and Isla Incahuasi fees, listed at US$25 per person, are extra. Reviewers mention long days in the car, about seven hours on the first and last days, and a simple hotel in Uyuni with hot water and heating.

What Travelers Say

Rated 4.8/5 by 89 verified GetYourGuide travelers.

This tour was nothing short of spectacular. Our amazing, friendly, fun guide Freddy and the excellent driver Javier were both fantastic hosts. Freddy was available to answer any question and the trip was faithful to everything that was promised. We loved our trip and would recommend to others. We thought the price was right and so many parts of the tour were amazing, especially Salar de Uyuni (WOW). We were also taken care of when we needed some assistance getting used to the road and altitude conditions. Nothing short of spectacular, thank you so much Freddy and Javier!

I really enjoyed my time in Bolivia. Nelson and Christian were exceptional and so sweet. I want to emphasize this tour isn’t for everyone - we spent 7 hours in the car on the first and last day. The stops are few and far between, but absolutely breathtaking and exotic. This is completely worth the money. But please go into it knowing it will include long days of driving, extreme environments with potential for altitude sickness, few bathrooms and super cold. The hotel was comfortable, the food was good, the guides were super sweet, and the things I saw will stay with me forever.

I highly recommend this tour!! Our guide Freddy has been super competent and attentive to details, sharing with us interesting facts about nature and cultural life in Bolivia. His explanations are really an added valute to the tour! Our drivers were also super friendly and able to navigate difficult terrains. The hotel in Uyuni is simple but with hot water and heating, much needed after the tiring adventures. If you are in San Pedro, Freddy's tour is a must!!
